Flowers and birds themes are an essential inspiration of Asian art.
The fine work of Chinkin (gold inlay) is used to decorate these four Yukari pens with subtle charm designs.
Technique used
Chinkin uses carving chisels and a sheet of precious metal to engrave the design of the chosen decoration on the lacquered pen. Gold dust is then inlayed in the engraving. This technique which requires strong concentration and exceptional gesture control, brings sharpness and precision allied to a very expressive relief. Dot carving (Tenbori) draws the curves of the cat while linear carving (Senbori) illustrates the movement of the graceful foxtail.
