Product description
An all curves charm for this beautiful parrot and its shimmering plumage nestled amidst peach tree branches loaded with fleshy fruits gilded to perfection.
Meaning of the design
In the Land of the Rising Sun, peach is an auspicious symbol. In a very popular tale, momotarô, a little boy born in a giant peach has the mission to defeat demons and succeeds. In the myth of Izanagi peach protects the hero from thunder. Symbol of purification and eternity, the fruit is supposed to have a role of protection against bad influences, a value of exorcism. On the third of March of each year, ceremonies are held to ask divine protection from Peach in order to ensure the health and well-being of little girls. As for the parrot, like all birds, it is also a good fortune bearer.
Used techniques
To illustrate the generous shapes of peaches, Taka Maki-e, Hira Maki-e and Togidashi Maki-e techniques are used in synergy. Takidashi Maki-e is the oldest technique of decoration by polishing, Hira Maki-e is a flat lacquer application, Taka Maki-e is the application in relief using lacquer mixed with coal powder. The presence of the parrot is particularly accentuated by Taka Maki-e. A touch of refined gold powder dresses the ends of the pen. The clip fades subtly into the decor.
