Johann Placed on 23-05-2023 I really enjoy Lamy's Z55 gold nibs. Have a B and an M on favourite Al-Star pens with inks I find unique or interesting.I've always had a slanted grip and had success with oblique nibs in other non-Lamy pens that made it easier to write without having to shift paper angle, and allowed me to have more variation in line width with regular writing. Unfortunately, this did not translate to this OB from Lamy. The nib is of the same quality as my previous Z55, feeling nicely softer and overall writing wetter. But the oblique angle is a bit too pronounced for my grip and handwriting, so I will not be able to use it.Costly lesson learned: when it comes to unique expensive nibs, make sure you figure first a way to try them before purchasing to make sure they will work for you.
Johann Placed on 27-09-2022 This is my second gold nib and it looks great on the Al-Star Whitesilver. Aside from making the Lamy Al-Star stand out and look quite stylish (the first one I keep on an Al-Star Pearl), it writes so smoothly and effortlessly that I wish I could get a couple more for other Al-Stars in my collection. It would look great on the Cosmic and on the Bronze. While at the price point required for nib+pen on Lamy this would place it at the same range as other pens with gold nibs, if you are already a fan and own Lamy fountain pens, and want to make one of those you already own look special and write even better, this type of nib is the way to go, particularly for Al-Star pens.My experience so far is with M and B nibs as that is what I tend to use most. The wetness of the gold nibs make the M write more like a B and the B write like a BB. I suspect the same trend will follow for F and EF versions but I cannot confirm until next time I am able to splurge again.
