Product description
Urushi lacquer is a very special natural material, which is made from the sap of trees which only grow in East Asian countries. This urushi is in very limited supply. The deciduous urushi tree takes 15 years to reach maturity.
Sap is extracted from the tree and this sap is then mixed with other compounds to form the lacquer.
When hand applied to the surface of the pen, the pen is kept in a high humidity environment where is slowly sets into a hard, durable and lustrous finish, which is waterproof and resistant to most other materials.
This special lacquered surface protects the pen in the best possible manner.
The urushi is applied in up to 12 separate layers, all of which need to be hardened and dried before the next application.
The total process of lacquering can take up to two months.
The Sailor King of pen is made out of ebonite and features an 21 karat gold nib and can be used with Sailor cartridges or a converter (included)
