Description
Montblanc Writers Edition Homage to Bram Stoker: father of the vampire myth Bram Stoker was many things: civil servant, theatre manager, progressive thinker. But, above all, he was a pioneer of the horror genre, a writer who created in Dracula not only a character of literature but also a myth. In the Irish novelist’s work of 1897, the infamous, centuries-old figure of the vampire found its definitive literary form. With accomplished flair, Stoker interwove elements from ancient sagas and oral tradition into a fascinating spine-chiller. He succeeded masterfully in transporting the sinister vampire from the distant past into his own day and age. On the threshold of the 20th century, in a period characterised by scientific and technical innovation, Stoker ingeniously conjured up the secretive, supernatural essence of evil. This was all the more remarkable given his background: a steady career as a civil servant in legal administration, which offered little hint that he would one day secure a place in literary immortality. It was only a career change and a move to London’s Lyceum Theatre in 1878 that saw his talent as a writer really flourish. Here, he was given the opportunity to rub shoulders with notable actors, writers and other prominent figures of the time – inspiration for and the foundation of his work on his masterpiece, Dracula. In honour of the author of this classic tale of horror, Montblanc has created the Writers Edition Homage to Bram Stoker Collection.
