Namiki Yukari Royale Chinkin Cat fountain pen

Elegant combination of enigmatic domestic feline and silky ears of green foxtail to decorate this Yukari Royale whose subtle charm has been expressed through the fine work of Chinkin (gold inlay).

Symbols of the design
The cat is a pet appreciated worldwide, its playful, cuddly and independent character fascinates and enchants since antiquity. In Egypt it was a deity, symbol of happiness, known as Bastet. Appreciated for its fight against rats during epidemics and against mice that destroy crops, the cat became in Japan a symbol of wealth and fertility. Recent scientific studies have even shown that the purring cat would have beneficial effects on health, calming stress, soothing tension and heartbeat.

Technique used
Chinkin uses carving chisels and a sheet of precious metal to engrave the design of the chosen decoration on the lacquered pen. Gold dust is then inlayed in the engraving. This technique which requires strong concentration and exceptional gesture control, brings sharpness and precision allied to a very expressive relief. Dot carving (Tenbori) draws the curves of the cat while linear carving (Senbori) illustrates the movement of the graceful foxtail.
